Mental Health Stats
According to a published report by Vanier Institute, mental health issues are a lot more widespread in Canada than we would believe. In their report from February 2018, the Vanier Institute says that Canadians living with a mental illness account for an estimates 1 in 5 people, and 4 in 10 Canadians (38%) report that they have an immediate or extended family member living with a mental health problem. What is more, about 22% of Canadians report having more than one family member living with a mental health problem.
Military and Veteran families have unique experienced resulting from shared work-family realities, including high mobility, extended and/or unexpected separation risk and periods of transition between military and civilian life. In Canada, there are more than 54,000 military families, with 40,000 people listed in the Regular Force and 14,000 in Reserve Force. We also have around 650,000 CAF Veterans living in Canada.
